London, Copenhagen, Toronto and Abu Dhabi are among twenty cities named most likely to be Global Sustainability Centers by the year 2020.
The list of selected cities, which was produced by think tank the Ethisphere Institute consists of 10 large cities (with populations of more than 600,000) and 10 mid-sized cities (with populations less than 600,000).
Cities were considered for their environmental and sustainability practices and marked on issues such as health and recreation, education, law enforcement and transparency, transportation and housing and investment.
Stefan Linssen, Managing Editor, Ethisphere Magazine, said: “As future global centers, their planning will positively impact the quality of life of successive generations and provide a model for other cities to emulate.”
The year 2020 was earmarked as it is the set target date for most of the commended cities’ sustainability plans.
